Kashinath Ghanekar passed away peacefully on August 2nd, , at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is survived by his wife Meena (nee Pendharkar), sons Milind (Krista) and Anand (Jennifer), grandchildren Chaitan, Sharmila, Kiran and Divya, and siblings Shailaja Barve (Pune), Arvind Ghanekar (Hyderabad), Vidya Dixit (Pittsburgh), and Sudha Ghanekar (Pune).
Born in Aurangabad, India on January 19th, , he travelled to the United States in where he completed his Ph.D. in Physics at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana. While in the U.S. he met and married Meena and moved to Ontario in After living in Hamilton and Lindsay, the family settled in the Greater Toronto Area in where he continued his career in applied solid state physics and microelectronics with high tech industrial firms including Magna International and Litton Systems.
He was very active in the Marathi community over the past four decades, serving in all executive and advisory positions of the Marathi Bhashik Mandal organization. He played a pivotal role in legally incorporating the Mandal and securing its status as a charitable organization.
