Robert C. O'Brien Biography
Robert C. O'Brien was the pen name of Robert Leslie Conly, born January 11, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Williams College but left during his sophomore year. After studying music, he returned to college the following year and in graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in English. In he married Sally McCaslin, and they had four children. From until his death of a heart attack on March 5, , O'Brien worked in the Washington, D.C.
area. Although he worked in the city, he spent much time in the country, and for about ten years lived on a small farm.O'Brien, whose father was a reporter for the New York Herald Tribune, worked as a journalist and editor. In he was a staff writer at Newsweek magazine; in he became a reporter for the Washington Times-Herald and later for Pathfinder News magazine. In

While there he studied piano at Eastman School of Music, and at one time considered being a musician. Instead, he became an editor and writer for Newsweek magazine from to , and for Pathfinder from to From until the time of his death in he was employed as a writer and editor by the National Geographic Magazine. He made his home in New York City before and in Washington, D.C. after that. He also had a home in Morgan County, West Virginia, after , a place he loved and visited as often as he could. He was married and the father of one son and three daughters. His books include The Silver Crown, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, which won the Newbery Award, and A Report From Group His last book, Z is for Zachariah was nearly completed at the time of his death; the last few chapters were written from notes by this wife and one of his daughters.

Robert Leslie Conly - who went by the pen name Robert C. O’Brien - was born in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Williams College and graduated from the University of Rochester and received a degree in English in He was the third of five children of a well-educated, literate family. At school he was admired for his wit, became editor of the school paper, and showed a great facility with words, especially in writing verse. Originally he wanted to become a pianist and studied at the Julliard School of Music in New York City. However, he changed his mind and decided to study English at the University of Rochester and got a BA degree in English in After graduation, he worked first for Newsweek magazine, and later, after his marriage in , as a reporter and editor for the Washington Times-Herald. From until his death, he worked for the National Geographic magazine. He only started writing fiction in the last ten years of his life.

Mrs. Frisby is a field mouse who lives in a small house. Her husband died, so she has to find food herself. However, her mouse, Timothy, is very, very, sick. She goes to a mouse named Mr. Ages who might have medicine to help Timothy.
Mrs. Frisby goes to Mr. Ages, and he gives her 3 packets of medicine, and he tells her that Timothy probably has pneumonia. She has to keep him warm and still.
Mrs. Frisby takes the shortcut home, but she has to go next to the cat, Dragon, that all animals fear. She finds a crow named Jeremy that is tied to a tree, and the cat will eat him if he doesn't escape. Mrs. Frisby risks her own life to free the crow by chewing through the strings, and he, in return, drops her off at her own house.
When she gets inside, all of her children are huddled around Timothy in his bed. She gives Timothy his medicine, and after all 3 packets, he is out of danger. However, it is the springtime which means that Mr. Fitzgibbons plow will come around, but Timothy is too weak to move around.
