Liu Bang
Liu Bang ( - BC), Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty, is the first emperor of the Han Dynasty ( BC - AD). As an outstanding politician, strategist and director, he made great contributions to the development of Han people and its culture. In BC, he rebelled against the despotic rule of the Qin Dynasty ( - BC) and together with Xiang Yu, led the uprising army against the Qin. In October of BC, he and his army attacked Xianyang, the capital city of the Qin and overthrew the Qin Dynasty.

In his youth, he was considered as a futile boy because he usually played truant and seemed to have no ambition. Later Liu was very lucky to be a low-ranked official in Sishui and, to some degree, was well-known among the neighborhoods. One day, as he saw Emperor Qin Shi Huang sitting in a delicate and gorgeous carriage he admired so much, thought that it should be a real man to be bestowed such luxuriant treatment. Since then, Liu started to show his distinct personal strength.

A pleasant and broad-minded man, well known for his generosity and willingness to help others was Liu Bang. Liu Bang (memorable name Wei) was born to peasant parents in Pei County of Jiangsu Province during the late Qin Dynasty ( BC). As an adult, Liu Bang served as an official, responsible for the Sishui River.

In the year BC, the Qin Emperor Ying Zheng passed away and his second son Hu Hai took over the throne. Emperor Hu Hai was even of inferior quality than his late father. He neglected his responsibilities as emperor and allowed the eunuch Zhao Gao to govern the country on his behalf.

Not long after Emperor Hu Hai&#;s ascension, an uprising began, led by Chen Sheng and Wu Kuang. Xiang Liang and Xiang Yu from Jiang Dong, Ying Bu from Po Yang and Peng Yue from Yu Je all joined the uprising against the Qin Dynasty.

Liu Bang could no longer stand by helplessly. He returned to his hometown, and with the help of Xiao He, Cao Can, Fan Kuai, and Zhou Bu managed to round up three thousand volunt

Emperor Gao ( B.C.E. or B.C.E. – June 1, B.C.E.), commonly known inside China as Gaozu (Chinese: 高祖; pinyin: Gāozǔ, Wade-Giles: Kao Tsu), personal name Liu Bang (Wade-Giles: Liu Pang), was the first Emperor of the Chinese Han Dynasty (漢朝). He ruled over China from B.C.E. until B.C.E., and, along with Zhu Yuanzhang of the Míng Dynasty (明朝), was one of only a few founders of dynasties who emerged from the peasant class. Before becoming an emperor, he was also called Duke of Pei (沛公), after his birthplace. He was also crowned as the Prince of Hàn by Xiang Yu, the Grand Prince of Western Chu (項羽; Wade-Giles: Hsiang Yü), following the collapse of Qín Dynasty (秦朝), and was called so before becoming emperor.

After defeating his rival, Xiang Yu, Gaozu centralized China under the Qin model. He gradually replaced the harsh Legalist administration of the Qin with a Confucian system that emphasized moderation and virtue, and restored Confucian scholarship to prominence. Under Gaozu’s reign, the Chinese imperial system assumed most of the characteristics that it retained until it was dismantled in the early twentieth century.
