Simmons apologizes for Harriet Tubman sex video

Russell Simmons is apologizing after coming under fire for a video that appeared on his new All Def Digital YouTube channel.
The "Harriet Tubman Sex Tape" depicts an actress portraying the famous abolitionist having sex with her "Massa" in order to allow her to run the Underground Railroad. The video has since been taken down. Simmons issued an apology on in which he says he was contacted by his "buddies" at the NAACP asking for removal of the video.
"I'm a very liberal person with thick skin," wrote Simmons. "My first impression of the Harriet Tubman piece was that it was about what one of actors said in the video, that years later, there's still tremendous injustice. And with Harriet Tubman outwitting the slave master? I thought it was politically correct. Silly me. I can now understand why so many people are upset. I have taken down the video. Lastly, I would never condone violence against women in any form, and for all of those I offended, I am sincerely sorry."

Russell Simmons says he was taken aback by the controversy over the HarrietTubman parody video recently posted on his YouTube channel, which depicted the U.S. abolitionist having sex with her white slave master with the intent of filming the act and blackmailing him.
In fact, he tells host Cynthia LuCiette in the YouTube entertainment show BRKDWN that the backlash from African-American women in particular &#;broke my heart.&#;

The clip features an actress portraying Tubman having sex with her white slave master as someone films it so the abolitionist can bribe her boss. The "Harriet Tubman Sex Tape" video was posted Wednesday.
The year-old Simmons, founder of Def Jam Records, writes Thursday that he "can now understand why so many people are upset." He said he removed the video after a call from the NAACP.
"In the whole history of Def Comedy Jam, I've never taken down a controversial comedian," Simmons wrote. "When my buddies from the NAACP called and asked me to take down the Harriet Tubman video from the All Def Digital YouTube channel and apologize, I agreed."
