Matthias Maute has achieved an international reputation as conductor, recorder and flute player and as a composer. Mr. Maute is esteemed for his artistic direction of Ensemble Caprice, for whom he produces ingenious and fascinating programs. With this ensemble he regularly appears at major festivals world wide. In Canada he has performed at the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, Festival international du Domaine Forget and Elora Festival among others.
In the realm of choir and orchestra direction Matthias Maute has focussed more and more on large scale projects. His versions of Bach’s B Minor Mass, Arvo Pärt's and ’s Magnificat and J. D. Zelenka’s Miserere were broadcast nationwide by CBC Radio 2 and Radio Canada/Espace Musique. He has recorded G. F. Haendel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks on CD, and under his direction Ensemble Caprice was awarded the prestigious JUNO Award for Best Classical Album of the Year (Vocal or Choral Performance) for its CD Gloria! Matthias Maute wurde als Sohn von Ursula (geb. Fischer) und Wilhelm Maute in Ebingen geboren, einer Stadt auf der Schwäbischen Alb in Baden-Württemberg gelegen. Er wuchs gemeinsam mit drei Schwestern auf. Matthias Maute studierte Blockflöte an den Musikhochschulen in Freiburg und Utrecht. Im Jahr gewann er den ersten Preis in der Solistenkategorie des Wettbewerbs für Alte Musik in Brügge, im Jahr mit dem Trio Passagio den Wettbewerb des holländischen Impresariats.
Heute ist Maute künstlerischer Leiter des Ensemble Caprice und Mitglied des New Yorker Barockensembles REBEL sowie Erster Flötist des REBEL Baroque Orchestra. Er hat zahlreiche Kompositionen für Blockflöte verfasst. Als Lehrer ist er weltweit angefragt, er unterrichtet Blockflöte, Kammermusik und Improvisation an der McGill University in Montreal. CDs von ihm sind bei ATMA Classique, Dorian Recordings, Vanguard Classics und ANTES Editions erschienen.
