Coin description
The obverse of the coin shows a hand reading a book in Braille, symbolizing the invention of Louis Braille. On the left, the inscription &#;LOUIS BRAILLE&#; appears vertically, with the years &#;&#; and &#;&#;. These dates indicate his birth and the year the coin was issued. On the right, the initials &#;RI&#; stand for &#;Repubblica Italiana&#;. Just below, the letter &#;R&#; represents the minting workshop. At the bottom, the letters &#;M.C.C.&#; are the initials of the artist Maria Carmela Colaneri. Twelve stars surround the edge of the coin, representing the founding countries of the European Union.
