ABOUT DISTRICT COURT
The first Court to be set up by the British Raj in our District was in Barkur, near Brahmavar. It was then known as District Munsiffs Court. The District Munsiffs Court had jurisdiction over Udupi, Karkala and Kundapura. In the year , the District Munsiffs Court was shifted to Udupi. Udupi was then a part of the undivided South Kanara District (Dakshina Kannada). The District of South Kanara, which was within the jurisdiction of Madras High Court, was included in the jurisdiction of the High Court of Mysore with effect from when the State Re-organization Act came into force. The District & Sessions Court of Udupi came into existence on The District Court has the jurisdiction over seven revenue Taluks of Udupi District i.e. Udupi, Kundapura, Karkala, Kaup, Brahamavara, Hebri and Byndoor.

N. Sudhakar Shetty, S.K. District v. State Of Karnataka
Malimath, J.:— The petitioner, Sri N. Sudhakara Shetty, was appointed as Munsiff under the Mysore Munsiffs, Recruitment Rules, , (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Rules’), on probation for a specified period of one year which was extended by the High Court. The extended period of probation expired on By order dated (Ext. A), the State Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by rule 15 of the Rules, terminated, with immediate effect, the services of the petitioner on the ground that he has failed to give satisfaction during the period of probation and the extended period of probation. The petitioner has, in this writ petition, prayed for striking down rub 15 of the Rules and for quashing the order (Ext. A).
