Saxophonist, composer, producer, and vocalist Eric Darius likes to play by his own rules. He’s a visionary who has learned to listen to his own inner voice.
Steeped in tradition and grounded in the lessons learned from his mentors, Darius is not afraid to push himself and his art forward. The Renaissance man reaffirms this credo on his sixth album as a leader and second recording for Shanachie Entertainment. “Retro Forward represents my musical statement as an artist who’s not confined by any boundaries, genres, or rules.
As a younger person with roots in the Contemporary Jazz genre, I feel it’s my responsibility to pay homage to the greats that founded this music, but also push it forward to a new, exciting direction that will keep the music alive and relevant for the younger generation,” confesses the astute business scholar.

Born into a musical household with Caribbean influences, Eric's musical journey from Tampa, Florida started early at the age of 11, performing at the prestigious Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland with Sonny LaRosa & America's Youngest Jazz Band. Performing over a hundred shows a year in his early teens honing his craft, he went on to record his first album independently at age 16, then made his major label debut on the global stage in with the release of Night on the Town. Taking the world by storm and causing a frenzy never seen before in Contemporary Jazz, he was prophetically hailed Debut Artist of the Year by Smooth Jazz News Magazine later that year.

Eric Darius (born December 3, ), is an American saxophonist, vocalist, songwriter, producer, and educator.
Early life
Darius was born in New Jersey to a father of Haitian descent and a mother of Jamaican descent. He grew up in Tampa, Florida. Born into a musical family, his father plays bass, his mother and sister sing, and his older brother plays drums and trumpet. Darius grew up listening to Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Grover Washington, Jr., David Sanborn, George Benson, Bob Marley. Saxophonist Eric Darius is a man of action. Hardly any other musician in the smooth jazz genre has played his way into the front row as fast as he has. His activity is also reflected in his numerous releases.
Cruisin (), Night On The Town (), Just Getting Started (), Going All Out (), On A Mission (), and Retro Forward () are his milestones. Like many other artists, he took over the reins after his record contracts expired and founded his own label SagiDarius Music.
He is well aware of the considerable additional work and responsibility. Nevertheless, he perceives his step as a liberating blow. Appropriately his new album is called Breakin' Thru ().
The second single of Eric's new album is Dare 2 Dream, released in It is the story of how everything one dreams of miraculously joins together and turns into good things. At the same time it is Eric's confession to break through the walls of the escapements and take the big leap.
