Interview with Muharem Bazdulj
Muharem Bazdulj, born in , is one of the leading writers of the younger generation to appear in the countries of the former Yugoslavia. He writes in a wide variety of genres, including novels, short stories, poetry, and essays; he is also active as a journalist and a translator.
One of his short story collections has appeared in English (The Second Book, Northwestern University Press, ). Bazdulj is the author of nine books in all, including his most recent set of stories, Magic. He currently lives in Travnik and Sarajevo. John K. Cox is currently translating some of Bazdulj’s works.
John K. Cox: You write journalism and essays as well as a unique type of fiction, with strong historical, philosophical, and documentary elements. What are your main themes and concerns in your non-fiction?
Muharem Bazdulj: My non-fiction can be divided in two parts. I write about books, movies, popular music, even about sports. But I also write about politics, op-ed pieces, so to speak. For a long time, I avoided writing abo

Milica Vučković rođena je godine u Beogradu. Diplomirala je na odseku za primenjeno slikarstvo u klasi profesora Miroslava Lazovića, na Fakultetu Primenjenih umetnosti u Beogradu, na kojem je, zatim, završila i master studije. Na istom fakultetu je i doktorirala godine na studijskom programu Primenjene umetnosti i dizajn, sa radom pod nazivom „Percepcija umetničkog dela kod klasno različitog posmatrača: interaktivna izložba slika i prostornih instalacija.“ Radila je godinu dana na predmetu „akt“ i „scenografija“ kao saradnik na FPU. Od do Izdala je tri knjige, zbirku priča Roj (Apostrof), roman Boldvin (Lom), i roman Smrtni ishod atletskih povreda (Booka) za koji je dobila Vitalovu nagradu za najbolji roman godine. Ima preko deset samostalnih izložbi, nekolicinu kolektivnih, kao i nekoliko projekata na kojima je radila kao scenograf ili asistent scenografije u Narodnom pozorištu u Beogr

Edo Ljubić, sin ugostitelja iz Donjeg Vakufa, rođen je na Titov dvadeseti rođendan, travničku gimnaziju pohađao je u isto vreme kad i Skender Kulenović, pevao je u jugoslovenskom paviljonu na velikoj njujorškoj izložbi kojoj su prisustvovali Tesla i Pupin, glumio je u filmu s Batom Živojinovićem, a postoje indicije da sreo sa kraljem Petrom.

He graduated in English literature studies, but defined his career as a journalist, columnist and writer. Leaving his native Travnik, he travelled via Sarajevo to Belgrade, which he’d come to love through his father’s recollections of his days in the military. He recalls his childhood as an idyllic picture of a socialist upbringing in which one’s religious affiliations didn’t matter. The war in Bosnia caused everything to change drastically. Of the four Nobel laureates that he’s met and socialised with, Polish writer Olga Tokarchuk is special. And if he were in a position to write the biography of a literary great, he would deliberate between Meša Selimović and Aleksandar Tišma.
It isn’t easy to be born in Travnik after Ivo Andrić, and for books to be your love and calling.
