Frederick Winslow Taylor was an American engineer and a pioneer in the field of scientific management. He is known as the father of scientific management and one of the first management consultants. Taylor's ideas have been widely adopted and used around the world.
Early Life and Education
Frederick was born in in Germantown, Philadelphia, into a wealthy Quaker family. His father, Franklin Taylor, studied law at Princeton University and built a successful career in lending. Frederick's mother, Emily Annette Taylor, was a fervent abolitionist and worked closely with Lucretia Mott. It was his mother who took charge of Frederick's education, and he quickly progressed under her guidance.
To further his education, Frederick traveled to Europe, spending two years in France and Germany, and then another 18 months traveling around the continent. In , he enrolled in Phillips Exeter

Frederick Taylor (Frederick Winslow Taylor; – ) was an American mechanical engineer who was always looking for efficiency improvements within the production and industrial engineering industry. Frederick Taylor was one of the first management consultants of the United States, intellectual leaders of the Efficiency Movement and founder of the term Scientific Management or Taylorism, and the Rational Goal Model or Taylor System.

Frederick Taylor was educated early by his mother. He studied for two years in France and Germany and travelled Europe for 18 months.
In , Taylor entered Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, with the plan of eventually going to Harvard and becoming a lawyer like his father. In , Frederick Taylor passed the Harvard entrance examinations with honours.
However, due allegedly to rapidly deteriorating eyesight, Frederick Taylor chose quite a different path. He became an apprentice pattern maker and machinist, gaining shop-floor experience at Enterprise Hydraulic Works in Philadelphia.

Frederick Winslow Taylor (–) was an inventor and engineer who became famous as the father of scientific management, also called Taylorism. The organization of modern industry, management, and much of daily life in industrial societies reflects his immeasurable influence.
Taylor was the 19th century's most ardent champion of efficiency in industry. He ostensibly set out to raise both productivity and wages (and thereby ease the explosive tension between industrial labor and management). But Taylor's theories heavily skewed the benefits of increased productivity in favor of management. The theory of the differential rate, for example, "scientifically" linked backbreaking production quotas to supposedly "fair" wage increases that were rarely proportional.&#;
In effect, Taylor utterly lacked the ability to understand his workers as anything other than underperforming cogs in a great industrial machine. Once remarking that he couldn't "look any workman in the face without seeing hostility," he was every bit as personally resented by the men he supervised as he was famous with the captains of industry.
